The handle starts with a soldered nickle silver guard above a collar made from blue maple burl and black micarata separated by white fiber. The thin spacer and pin are matching nickle silver. The handle is made from a local treasure; 5 thousand year old bog oak from underneath the Nodaway river valley in Adams co. Iowa. This naturally jet black wood is partly mineralized and always dressed for a formal occasion.
