Spalted Maple Puukko w Ironwood
This knife is my interpretation of a Scandinavian classic. A hand forged 1084 straight back blade with a flat grind almost to zero and and convex edge stropped razor sharp. The blade is about four inches long and the cutting edge extended al the way to the brass guard with no choil. The handle is made from local Iowan hard maple with a beautiful spalting. The dense desert ironwood collar is cut at an angle and separated by a brass spacer. Included is a custom sheath for protection and a secure fit.
This is a useful knife for just about any purpose, from kitchen to camp.
The spalted maple used in the handle of this knife was obtained from a tree a fee blocks from my home in Des Moines. A woodworker friend had taken it down in his yard and cut it up. I was able to find some nice figure in the off cuts and irregular pieces left over after he made a slab table. I love utilizing these kinds pieces to keep my sourcing local and keep waste to a minimum.
